22nd May: DS has English Lit 1 hr 45 mins (am) but this clashes with AS German writing 1hr 40 mins then Geography 1 hr 30 min (pm)

When would he do the German paper? After English or after Geography? How much break do they get between exams? I reckon his hand will be dropping off at the end of the day.
Why is he doing AS early?
His school has the policy that all boys take a MFL GCSE in Y9. He loves German so decided to continue studying it rather than take Russian Mandarin or French GCSE. The school wants the students to take a language exam in Y11, so his class are doing AS German. He will continue to study it in 6th Form to A level.

He does not want to go to university.

No criticism of Blitz but it irritates me when schools mess about like this and put students under unecessary additional pressure.

Exactly, there would not be such a problem if they did not insist on the AS exam being taken.

The school is not insisting. He can self study German and do the GCSE again or he can do the AS level. As he wants to continue with German to A level it makes sense to continue with lessons and do the AS Level.

When you get an A* in Y9 and want to continue with a subject, it makes sense to do AS over 2 years rather than just do more of the same. It is a great stepping stone towards A level.

Is he doing the new linear spec Blitz?
I understand about studying the subject further but surely he need not take the exam given this clash. The new AS don't count towards the A level anymore. I did a year of French A level in Year 11 but with no thought of doing an exam.

Can't believe I'm joining a thread for GCSE's. Doesn't seem a minute ago the stresses of the 11 plus exams, review, appeals and then the success at 12 plus!

Dd is now in Year 11. Apart from the mandatory exams she's taking Triple Science, Geography, French and Dance. Seems to have started with a good mind set, lets see how long it lasts! She is off in couple of weeks to Snowdonia as part of her Geography GCSE. Looking back I think she wishes she hadn't changed Business Studies for French GCSE, but I think that is more to do with the teacher rather than the subject.

If anyone has a link for the timetable for exams, would you mind providing the link? Thank you.

Another one boarding the 2018 bus :)

DD is doing the usual maths, English lit and Lang, 3 sciences, German, geography, music, art and Latin.

She has had to spend quite a bit of time over the summer on her first piece for Art - it has to be handed in on Thursday and it still isn't finished :( I am so frustrated that she had the whole summer to get it completely sorted but here we are with 3 days to go and she will be working on it every evening. Then it is time to focus on the second piece - but at least she has a better idea of expectations now. She knew art was going to mean a lot of work but it has still been a shock to her. When asked, she doesn't regret the choice as she is mostly enjoying it. At least it will be all completed by Easter (ish).
