Proud Dad - most schools in Bucks don't require grade A at GCSE in core subjects for Sixth form entry, in fact I'm struggling to think of any who do.

It varies enormously between schools - one of our Upper schools [Secondary Modern] has the same grade requirements for external candidates as a nearby Grammar school.

As Guest says, it varies enormously between schools - 6th Form entry is another minefield - and usually quite fraught as the time scale is really short between results coming out and term starting, however external and internal applicants to the 6th Form MUST be covered by the same admissions criteria - the only variation can be that internal students who meet the entry requirement are given a priority category over external candidates who meet the criteria. Our school requires minimum A at GCSE in any subject a candidate want to take at A level. They must have 6As and 2Bs at GCSE overall (or 54 points out of the best 8 GCSE results) and if they want to take 4 A levels, they must have 8A*s. (However, if Further Maths is the 4th A level, this can be taken if Maths GCSE was at an A*).
