Many congratulations to teams Tabasco and Reading.
Brilliant news and I’m sure we’ll deserved.
What shocked everyone at my sons school was although each year there is the odd surprise many boys who were thought to be almost certain of getting a place didn’t.
They had outstanding academic track records and felt they had interviewed well.
Some with all 9s 5As at As and 4 A* predictions didn’t even get interviews.
They also had outstanding scores in things like the maths challenges.
Seems hard to know what else was needed to be in with a chance.

Now have today’s update from my DS.
Seven Cambridge offers so that’s about half what they usually have.
Oxford usually 15-20.

Re: Oxbridge Decision Outcome 2020
They will all have a chance to apply for interview feedback which will help them understand why other candidates were considered a better fit.
It does not mean they were not good enough. All candidates who are selected for interview are considered to be academically capable of doing the course.
But there are too many candidates who are academically capable of doing the course so the final selection has to come down to other factors.

I’m sure the feedback will be useful and it’s good that Oxbridge take the time to do it.

Interesting article in the Guardian saying that 7 out of 10 places (69%) out of a total 3990 offers made to British and international applicants, to study at Oxford in 2020 went to state schools. 22% of undergraduates in 2019 were from a BME background.

Drilling down into the numbers, I think numbers of applications over the last 5 years have gone down from private schools whilst overall application numbers have been the same.

Fantastic news.
Well done Oxford for delivering on their promises on this.
Wonder how the Cambridge figures compare.
It would be interesting to see the figures on some of the key subjects. DG

Improving, but still some way to go. 7-8% getting 30% of the offers.
But don’t you think academic places should be on merit alone?
Real solution lies in improving State schools performance, not arbitrary quotas or lowering competition. Whatever educational resources are available to private schools, should be available to State schools too. Better teachers, well equipped libraries and laboratories etc.

I am afraid that I don't know what the answer is. I know of several state school DC with fantastic academic results, extras like maths and science challenges and great personal statements who didn't even get an interview this year. Penalised for going to good GS? I don't know but I do know that they will be an asset to wherever they go.

Re: Oxbridge Decision Outcome 2020
Looks like applicants from Grammar schools have generally been harshly treated by Oxford this year. Lower offers from Cambridge too. Even the website of QE is unusually quiet this year, so far.
