If he declined Latymer, as you state above, how did he also start there....it makes no sense. You can't do both!

Surely if there was an appeal involved your friend would have mentioned it? Did you not ask?!

When they were offered Latymer last March 1, they would have had only 2 weeks or so to say yes or no to the place. Once you decline a place, that's it.....it's offered immediately to someone else....and as we know with Latymer last year, places were being offered almost up to the start of the Autumn term just last month.

A friend with a son on 220 this year did not get invited to the tour & is not expecting her son to get in given how high the marks were.

DS must have been on the waiting list for QE when he started at Latymer and when a place became available they took it.
Some DCs and parents decided to try out selective schools then either decide to go down indie route or take a local school due to traveling difficulties etc. So places do come up occasionally.
Waiting lists run until the end of the first term ie December. Any DC leaving during this period results in the next person being offered a place.

Are you sure about this? It must been years and years since anyone got in on 210. Even if many boys started at other schools and removed themselves from the waiting list there must've been 100's of boys between 224-210 who would've taken the place.
Regarding appeals: has anyone ever got it QEB or HBS on appeal? And if so on what basis?

(If he were to be answering the question during an appeal hearing, the panel would expect the 'honest truth', however).
It would be an extreme case. As lastminmum says, there is little (if any) recent history of the super-selectives losing appeals.

Are appeals adjudications in the public domain?

Only the subsequent case, if either side decides to challenge the ruling of an original IAP. The number of appeals lodged / heard / upheld will be known to both the school and the LA and often forms part of the information about the school listed in the LA's Secondary School Admissions booklet.

Maybe this child on 210 was on the waiting list & was simply the only one able to take up a very last minute place at such short notice....although this being QE it still seems so odd, as someone else has said there must be many families between 210-224 who would immediately say yes to a place at QE whenever it is offered. You only have to read these boards for a while to know how people feel about this school.

With regard to last minute places coming up, I heard this week of someone who only gave up their Latymer place in the first week of September....and also of someone who got a very low ranking at Latymer & so took up a place at an indie after thinking they had no chance whatsoever of getting in.... they were called 2 days into this Autumn term asking if they would be interested in a place as one had become available. Both these children were in my child's primary school class.

No appeals involved, just very last minute places which Latymer were obviously struggling to fill.

Sorry to be quite so harsh but this is ridiculous.

The QE 210 one or the Latymer just after term started one?

If the boy started Latymer but is now at QE, he has to have got in somehow. Possibly the theory about '210? Oh yes, he got that' (when what was meant was, 'quite a bit more than that') is the most plausible.

Starting in September and leaving a school after a few days happens all the time. It's the got in with 210 which is annoying and misleading for very many families.

I completely agree, this sound very strange? prima facie wait list jumping - it is not possible or is it ? why school will do it ?
