Grammar School Exam Results 2009

Post by za1 »

Different results in the Times and Guardian

In the Times :

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_a ... e_results/

KECH 15th in GCSEs and 24th for A Levels. The GCSE results indicate that the % of A* and A grades were 84.84. I may be reading this the wrong way......I intrepret this as 84.84 % of all the GCSE papers taken were A* or A (another way to read this is 84.84% of all pupils got an A* or A which is surely not a big deal).

If you look at the Guardian however :

http://www.guardian.co.uk/education/sch ... s/grammars

KECH appears 31st and Ke5W 6th.

The two tables seem to contradict each other.

The results are excellent nevertheless.

Hi Za,

I think the Times are highlighting A star and A grades achievements only, whereeas the Guardian are including grades A-C. Both CH and FW reached 100% on this count , so well done to both! The dierence in rankings is attributed to the point score - as FW puts a lot more kids through the exam process, they are awarded more points.

As you say, excellent results all round.

Hi Shana

That's the bit I couldn't work out.....both schools acheived 100% for people with 5 or more A-C including Maths and English. KECH had a higher score for A* and A grades. Yet the points average was higher for 5 Ways.

As you say - likely to be due to the greater number of students taking the exams at 5 ways.
