is true 91 % bexley residents children did not pass
hi,
I read somewhere that 91 % of bexley kids did not pass the exam ...is that true?
Is there reference for this?
Thanks

Yes, it's true.
Here is the link to the Bexley Council website - I hope it works:
http://www.bexley.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=4297" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I don't have the exact numbers to hand, but nearly 5000 children sat the test and only 400 (approximately) Bexley children passed.

Yes but 4862 figure included OOC. Perhaps it's my maths but it looks like 18% of the children from Bexley schools who sat the test - qualified.
2454 of these children attend primary schools in Bexley, and 438 have been deemed selective.
Re: is true 91 % bexley residents children did not pass
According to the LEA's Primary School Census Jan 2011 http://www.bexley.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=9175" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; there are only 2600 children in Bexley Primary Schools (of the appropriate age). From the figures given above, it looks like the vast majority of these Bexley children took the exam and of those, 18% have been deemed qualified.
Hopefully whoever posted that figure originally, was simply mistaken and not deliberately attempting to inflame what is already a very emotional situation.

Re: is true 91 % bexley residents children did not pass
does this figure include independent schools in Bexley
Re: is true 91 % bexley residents children did not pass
No - just state schools. edited to add (just to clarify - the Census figures are just state primary)
Re: is true 91 % bexley residents children did not pass
As politicians know, statistics can be looked at in different ways but still be correct.
1. Counting just Bexley children who sat the test, then 18% passed.
2. If you count all the children who sat the test, the number of Bexley children who passed is 9%.

Beware the denominator! must always be appropriate ...Muggle wrote:As politicians know, statistics can be looked at in different ways but still be correct.

The pass rate for Bexley children was 18% .
Of those who passed 31.4% were from Bexley
