Re: St Olave - how did it go?
My ds found the English much easier than expected. It has always been one essay in recent history so that was as expected. He was chuffed with the comprehension as Spellig is a favourite for him plus the last 10 marks were for completing sentences which is his favourite.
I would have thought all should be writing in pen, it goes without question surely?
Maths was similar to their familiarisation papers, no surprises but some tough problem solving.
In my ds's room they did write both their name and candidate number on both papers.

Bobmumof3 - That's great - you mean Skellig. There were approx 1020 candidates appeared in the exam and I fail to understand why the forum users don't want to contribute their experience of their ds's Olave exam.

Similar experience:
Maths - on the easier side
Comprehension - tough words but questions reasonable
Writing - no choice
Have not managed to extract much information from ds about the writing element. Confused about whether it was a continuation of the comprehension text?
Also do St Olaves go strictly by the exam results or do they take into account exceptional talent in other areas - music/sport. Heard a boy who is already part of Team GB (Olympics) applied. Wld they turn that down?
