On waiting list- how long will we have to wait to know?

Post by hopoe »

DS got his second choice, his big bro’s comprehensive. Sutton was 1st choice and maybe recklessly we didn’t even put Wallington or greenshaw on the form.
Had to break news to DS on phone as am abroad :( Luckily his dad was there. Anyway, is there still any realistic hope? And if he gets a waiting list how long will we have to wait to know. Thanks for any info especially from those who’ve been there.

You could add his name to the waitlist of both Greenshaw and Wallington County. Now it will depend on the score as well as how many places are declined by the current offer holders.

You can email the school from today to ask for his current position. Our son was 42nd in waiting list IC and not surprisingly didn't get an offer but he got WCGS as his second choice and is very happy there now. It depends year on year how much the waiting list moves, last year they didn't get very far down it at all, I think the IC list (they maintain two lists) doesn't move very much. Good luck!

Thank tiffinboys. It we didn’t put Wallington or greens has down on the list. Can we still apply to them? Sorry to be ignorant, but what is the IC?

It means in catchment, which in Sutton GS's case means the postcodes that are in the priority area.

Last year we made a late application to SGS and our DS was top of the OC waiting list (he would have got a place on offer day if we'd put it at the top of our CAF). We didn't get an offer until late April, so it could be some time before there's movement on the waiting list.

Yes, you could add your DC’s name to both waitlists, while accepting the current offer so that he is not without any school place.

Thanks everyone, good to know there is some hope. I am going to downplay it with him and big up the comprehensive though as it was hard enough telling him he hadn’t got in. All that work, preparation, mocks, 2 rounds of tests, being told you’ve met the standard and then on offer day....nothing. It’s hard.

Emailed Nonsuch and they said they would send email on Monday and have already placed DD on waiting list.
is it the same for Wallington as well??? or do we have to inform separately for being on the waiting list

many thanks and regards

Nonsuch have said they will send an email on Monday that contains information on when waiting list positions will be available. I don’t think we’ll actually get the positions themselves on Monday.
