Devon 11 Plus

The Schools Admissions Code, that came into effect in 2012, stated that by law, schools must take all reasonable steps to inform parents of the outcome of tests before the closing deadline for the Common Application form (CAF) on October 31st .

There are 7 grammar schools in the geographic county of Devon, but there are three different admission authorities involved in the admissions process: Devon County Council, Plymouth & Torbay. There is also a “bilateral” school – Westlands School in Torbay.

Torbay Grammar schools

Torquay Boys Grammar, Torquay Girls Grammar, Churston Ferrers Grammar, The Spires College – Admissions Information for entry September 2018

These four schools have the same test and collaborate in the administration of the test. The results are shared between the schools. The Spires College is a bilateral school.

For 2018 entry, instead of two tests there is only one stage testing. They have decided that the CEM scores are enough to indicate a child’s ability. As there is no writing element in the CEM exam, they have decided to keep the writing exercise and to have that on the same day as the main exam. The writing test is only 20 minutes and there will be a short break beforehand.
