Devon 11 Plus
The New Schools Admissions Code, by law from 2012 , due to take effect for admissions for Entry in September 2013, states that schools must take all reasonable steps to inform parents of the outcome of tests before the closing deadline for applications on October 31st 2012.
There are 7 grammar schools in the geographic county of Devon, but there are three different admission authorities involved in the admissions process: Devon County Council, Plymouth & Torbay. There is also a “bilateral” school – Westlands School in Torbay.
Colyton Grammar School
Colyton Grammar School is a co-educational grammar school in Colyford. The school is a Trust School and manages its own admissions. Parents should complete the CAF in the usual way. There are 120 places in Year 7. In 2010 there were 379 applications to the school.

If fewer than 120 students meet the required standard in all 3 tests, those who meet the required standard in English and one other subject will be offered places in rank order of the combined Mathematics and VR score up to the 120th place. |

Both girls’ schools have made a change in the 11+ testing.
The test will now consist of Maths and English instead of verbal reasoning. The test dates are the same as the boys’ school but there is a slight variation in the order of the papers. See details below

| Test types | Verbal Reasoning – two tests which are multiple choice, 80 questions and 50 minutes each paper. The highest scoring paper is taken as the final mark, the weak one is disregarded. Most children tend to do better the first time round. |
| English – There are two parts, comprehension and writing. There is a short break in between each paper. The comprehension is 30 minutes long. There s a passage of 1 or 2 sides of A4 paper to read and 20 multiple choice questions. There are 5 possible answers. The passages are numbered. The written part is 30 minutes long. The child chooses 1 out of 3 writing topics. There will not always be the option of writing a story; there may be a writing task to persuade, inform or report |

| Maths paper is standard format not multiple choice and is 1 hour long. There are 34 questions. The paper is based on KS2 levels 1-5. It consists of the following: Number work – fractions, decimals,percentages,approximations and simple number patterns Shape, space, measures – perimeters, volumes, symmetry, angles, coordinates Data Handling – interpretation of statistical diagrams, Probality, mean, median, mode In addition, there will be some questions of a puzzle type nature to test problem solving skills.
